12/18/05 a.m.
Early morning, Chimes Creek was overwhemed by an onrush of muddy water from Leona Quarry. The DeSilva contractor on site said they had to release the water in order to prevent the detention pond from collapsing; two days later, the City issued a statement saying that the plywood weir had "failed" from the pressure of stormwater that had risen 6 feet above the temporary weir.

At its highest, the creek water rose to the top of the hub cap. The property owner who had been here for close to 30 years says he has NEVER seen the creek rise so high to cause this kind of flooding.

Steve Luntz wrote, "Shortly after the attached photo was taken, our footbridge on Chimes Creek was completely submerged, then swept away.  I still don't know where it is. "

The concrete culvert that drains from Hillmont is completely submerged.
This sewer main has remained exposed for at least 16 years, and repeatedly failed last winter. While it withstood the flood waters of 12/18, it would break off completely two weeks later. See photos next page.

While sewer manholes further upstream were completely submerged (and taking on more water in the system), this manhole at 6120 Oakdale was gushing raw sewage into the creek.
